Default If You Could Live Forever...Would You?

    Hey everyone,

A friend and I were watching Twilight last night, and he asked me the question "if you had the chance to become like them...become a vampire, would you?"
I merely laughed and replied no. The idea of never being able to die, always practicing self control, never going out into the sun, didn't appeal to me. While his outlook on it was the incredible strength, speeds, gifts, and knowledge they had acquired.

It had me thinking about it, and I decided to ask Talk and Play what their outlook on the subject was.

This thread doesn't have a great deal to do with the movie/books; it's just a question of if you could live forever, how they did, would you?

No, no, no, no! That would be horrible. Year after year after year of suffering and pain as you slowly watch the world change and have to watch your loved ones die while you live on.

I don't think I could. For even though you would have all the above losses and gains. I could not imagine watching everyone you love in life die. Losing them time and time again while you live on.

Seems as if it would be an endless roller coaster of joy and pain. What you would have to weigh out in your mind is could you handle the ride for the rest of your life. Never getting off the ride.

No. You eventually would get bored with life and regret the decision to live forever.

Music can't keep on this path forever. Something's gotta give - besides, would this not give me the opportunity to become a master of all instruments?

You can still die if you so choose. You're a vampire, not a god. That's why I prefer it to godhood, really - less power, but you don't need to help out anyone but yourself (unless you so choose).

Personal enrichment. No fear of the afterlife. Strength, power, wisdom.

I already avoid the sun at all costs and practice self-control of my rather violent emotions as it is. Everyone around me is dying anyways - whether I live forever or die in 50 years, people I know are going to die. Why should I let myself be dragged to the same fate? Not everyone need be left behind, anyways.

Could you please not spam this thread, Zing?

But imagine making friends and having to stop talking to them forever, constantly moving around.
Sure, you'll be strong, smart, fast...but you'll be alone.
Which makes you think, is it worth it.

You can get over having people around you. If I was alone, I wouldn't have anyone to distract me from what I wanted to do. Which won't be with other people if you are a superhuman.

Point out which was spam, responding to someone's reaction to my words, or quoting something that felt oddly relevant?

Yeah, pretty much. I don't talk to people now. I avoid people. What friends I did have I left behind when I constantly moved around. I live the life of a vampire, just minus the bonuses.

    Yes, but why do it?
What would your reason for living be?

    The American dream.

To do good in school, have a family, kids, improve myself thought it all, perhaps even become a roll model for those who follow in my steps, and in all, die a happy woman who gave something back to the world.

if u saw the movie or read the books. when he goes into the sunlight, it doesnt hurt, it just makes it obvious hes a vampire cause his skin turns silvery. he doesnt die. the only way to kill a vampire, that i picked up on, is to rip him apart and burn him. kinda brutal, but myself, i wouldnt want to live forever. my loved ones would pass and i wouldnt. love would be lost sooo many times, i could not bare it. then theres the fact that global warming is taking over. some people dont beleive in it but i do, dont argue, theres a forum for convorsation on the topic., and its what i beleive. seeing if it is true, then the world would become a horrible place. then theres watching all the youth becoming more involved in drugs and the music going completly techno, ughh its scary.
but id rather die, than live forever.

People really need to stop basing their knowledge of mythological vampires on Twilight, seriously.

    Vampires are killed by:

    Stake through the heart
Beheading them, burning the body, and burying the ashes at a crossroads
    Garlic
    Roses
    Sunlight

    And...suddenly, I've blanked entirely. Oi.

If I had to age, then I would get ugly and everyone I know would die. Could get pretty boring.

As long as I get to stay young and they perfect the Forget-Me Pill, then I think I'd accept immortality.

But without that pill to ease the stress of painful memories, I think over the years the painful memories would pile up too high to live normally. Maybe with a lot of Yoga I could do it.

If I were immortal I'd just go around generally outliving the hell out of everybody.

*rolls eyes* Oh, yes, I totally made up the one about roses. I've read it in several books, though it doesn't seem to be an entirely too common theme.

UM, if i had the choice i would. I would be a super hero. I would stay in one city for like 20 years and save people. THen move on to the next. Or i would be a ultimate drug king pin. I might switch it up a little bit

This reminds me of the song "Live Forever," mainly because of the title. :/

I don't know what to pick.

On one hand, I would love the power of a vampire, and I would most likely outlive most of my loved ones anyway, except my children (in the future).

On the other, it would be mighty boring after the first couple centuries or so.

    Yes, totally yes.

    I would choose yes instantaneously.

Right, right. Though 'beheading' and 'decapitation' are the same thing.

If you reattach someone's severed head, would they be 'recapitated'?

You better be talking the Billie Joe Sawyer song.

As for the rest - what would your plans truly be for immortality? I would want to better myself and the world, even if it means that I have to bear the downsides to life ever after.
