I do think this sort of thing will become necessary as the economy shifts the way it has been, with everything becoming automated and vast amounts of wealth exponentially growing constantly. I do not think we are there yet, but it will be interesting to see how it goes in Finland!

We were talking about that at work, since my specialization is in control systems and automation. They can slowly replace most jobs and just have a contracting company for repair and maintenance. Then 90% of people will be unemployed and we lucky few will be paid to keep the machines going.

Honestly though, for machines to replace human labor: farming, food processing, trash disposal, manufacturing, sales, every step of the line would have to be automated. So, once it is, and most people are unemployed, the government would set a basic wage of let's say $5,000/month. With that, you can choose how to spend it as you like, since that money now just represents resources/time/energy expended by machines.

For those who want more, they can of course make their own businesses, or express themselves with music or art, or for the very lucrative field of research, since by designing something new, you open new fields of automation or new fields to be automated.

But, if you want to be a lazy ****, you would be more than entitled to.

That's my prediction of the future in about 100-200 years.

Once we get further with molecularization and demolecularization, we'll be able to "scan" products, and create them in machines that can build them from simple molecules. But we'd also need a very abundant energy source, such as cold fusion or subspace harnessing. That's much farther down the road.

Down here in South Carolina, most of your generation are good ol'boys. They don't like transgenders, gays, Obama, and technology. And they hate unions. It's not saying they aren't smart. It's saying the culture they were raised in didn't prioritize intelligence. Instead it prioritized southern hospitality (unless you're gay, Muslim, different, or Obama. Most like black people, but hate Obama and love Trump.)
