the problem with legal documents, they always have different meaning for words, they limit the meanings, or left it open for loopholes!
The intent was that militia would be comprised of freemen of the state led by officers appointed by the state. Which describes the national guard almost perfectly.

Yet there is also a federal army.

And it's clearly the intent. Unless you sell guns and want to make more money of course.
I'm glad I'm not judgemental like all you smug, superficial idiots

Ultimately the founders intent, while nice to know, is irrelevant. The constitution is a living document, which means that the SCOTUS interpretation in the Heller decision takes precedence. That said, I don't fully agree with the courts decision in that matter.

My point stands. SCOTUS is appointed by a machine that receives huge benefit from gun makers.

However, the SCOTUS can be overruled by a constitutional amendment.

If the constitution was really a living document (which it is not), there would be no need to add amendments.

If it were not, there would be no amendments. If it were not, you'd be stuck living under rules that were made by old guys who could have had no idea what life, society, international relations, science or technology would be.

That is incorrect. A dead document requires updating to the document, with say an amendment.

A dead document does not get changed to stay relevant. An amendment is an update to stop it being dead.

It gets changed because it is dead.

Philosophically speaking: Alive can stay the same or change, dead can only be replaced.

Have you guys really devolved to arguing about whether a piece of paper is living or not?

It's been pretty dull lately. Added a new hot button topic though.

Technically Latin is a dead language because it doesn't change or evolve.

It is dead because nobody really speaks it.

No the Vatican speaks it as the official language. It's dead because it doesn't evolve like other languages do over time. The words, pronunciation, grammar, syntax is all set in stone.

And most importantly: no slang is introduced to it.

No it is in a coma!

once dead, only its name is remembered!

    Collapse the wave function!
And now I'll tell you what's against us, an art that's lived for centuries. Go through the years and you will find what's blackened all of history. Against us is the law with its immensity of strength and power - against us is the law! Police know how to make a man a guilty or an innocent. Against us is the power of police! The shameless lies that men have told will ever more be paid in gold - against us is the power of the gold! Against us is racial hatred and the simple fact that we are poor.
    - The Ballad of Sacco and Vanzetti, Joan Baez
