    Default Forum Rules

    1: The Forum

    The staff members of www.travian.us administer and moderate the forum. The forum is open to every player for free. By registering every user agrees to these terms and is obliged to follow them.

    1.1 Forum Staff
    The moderators are primarily responsible for maintaining and enforcing the forum rules as well as ensuring polite discussions. Punishments for users that do not follow these rules are subject to official warnings, infractions which result in a temporary or permanent ban from the forum, and/or ultimate deletion of the account and IP address bans. The staff reserves the right to issue an infraction without any prior warning. Moderators, as a general rule, are regular players of the game and are only responsible for their section of the forum. They are not necessarily obliged to answer continuous private messages about a ban when the reason for the ban and the rule broken has been stated by them.

    Attempts to impersonate any member of Travian staff from any domain is illegal and will be punished severely.

    Appeals regarding moderator decisions may be made to either the Forum Admin or Game Admin.

    1.2 Forum Hardware
    Any activities which cause unreasonable strain on the forum servers are in violation of these rules as they adversely affect the ability of other members to enjoy the services provided.

    2: The Members

    2.1 Ownership of accounts

    Knowing the password, or accessing by password, any account besides the first one that belongs to you by registration email address is illegal. The staff members reserve the right to delete or permanently ban multiple accounts on sight without prior warning and issue a ban on the "main" account.

    2.1A Use of Puppets

    Use of an account to post on behalf of a banned account also falls under rule 2.1 regarding ownership of accounts. Penalties equal to or greater than the normal use of a multiple account can certainly be applied to accounts that are used to post on behalf of a banned account. This can involve use of an account to post material at the banned user's request or to post things as a result of someone being banned.

    2.2: Forum Etiquette

    The forum is used by the players for public interchange and helping each other and all users should feel welcome here. Therefore polite and respectful behavior is required (netiquette). Flames and insults are not tolerated and will be punished with infractions.
    Also excessive usage of colors, capitalization and spaces between words are not tolerated. NOTE: The use of white text, except in the case of using periods to meet the minimum character requirement, will not be tolerated.

    2.3: In-game names

    In-game player and village names may be posted on the forums, however they must not be used to target players or be used in a derogatory manner. Users that create accounts to impersonate another in-game player will be punished severely and in-game action may be taken by the administrator(s). The forum staff has the final say in what names are and are not allowed to be posted on the forums.

    2.4: Battle Reports

    Battle reports may be posted on the forums, however they must not contain the in-game names of affected players or their villages. Posts in connection with the battle reports must not contain even a hint of who the affected player(s) are; battle reports must be completely anonymous. Acceptable methods of making battle reports anonymous include replacing the In Game Name and village name with either letters (ex. "xxx," "yyy"), an extremely vague description ("Silly Village," "Silly Account,") or alliance names. Information must not be posted in such a manner that makes the identity of the affected player(s) apparent.

    Please note that we are lifting this restriction for World Wonders. Battle reports on World Wonders may be posted with no edits.

    2.5 Private and Confidential Information
    The content of Private Messages (PMs), In Game Messages (IGMs) and other private conversations (ICQ, AIM,...) are not allowed to be posted in the forum without the permission of the author(s). Furthermore, information that could be considered confidential such as real-life names, birth dates, photographs and so on are not to be posted without permission of the person. The copyright law of the Federal Republic of Germany applies to the whole forum.

    2.6: Deputies

    Only the moderators are responsible for the order of the forum. There is a report button located at the bottom left hand corner of every post which can be used to report posts violating forum rules. Posts mentioning forum rule violations in previously posted material, asking for an action (Close/Delete Please!) or indicating a pending action (In before lock!) are not allowed.
    Only the thread starter may ask for closing, editing, deleting, or moving the thread.
    Being a deputy can include, but is not limited to, publicly threatening or requesting bans, deletion of posts, threads, accounts, or any other act of moderating. Such requests are fine if they are done in private in a message to a moderator.

    3: Forum Posts

    3.1: Subforum and Thread Topics

    Each "subforum" (such as Questions, Politics and Diplomacy, and General Chat) has a particular purpose that is stated in the subforum description. All threads must be within this general purpose; threads that do not fall within the description may be moved or deleted at the moderator's discretion. All threads must be posted in the appropriate subforum. Threads are only to be posted once throughout the entire forum; it violates forum rules to start more than one thread about the same thing. In addition, posts may only be posted once throughout the entire forum; it violates forum rules to post the same thing in different areas.

    Generally, each thread has a particular area of discussion as well. Posts within each thread must fit (at least somewhat) within the general discussion contained in the thread and must fit the description of the subforum. A gradual shift in the topic of a thread is expected and allowed, but rapid and drastic changes in thread topic will be moderated.

    3.2: Advertisements and Spam

    Any form of advertising, whether it be for sales on another site or referral links, are strictly forbidden in posts on the forum. Members that violate this rule face an immediate permanent ban without prior warning. This applies to external links that have such content as well. Travian-related referral links are allowed in signatures but must not be in the body of posts.

    Browser crashers are strictly forbidden and will be severely punished if posted on the forums as they violate the Etiquette rule as well as rule 3.

    3.3: Post Editing

    It is against the rules to make more than one post in a row when responding to more than one post. Users are encouraged to use the "Multi-Quote" feature. E.g., users may make more than one post in a row in Battle Report threads to post another BR after sufficient time with no response(s). As this rule may be considered vague, please ask the moderator of that section if you're unsure.

    3.4 Same-Topic Threads and Posts

    All members are strongly encouraged to use the search function to avoid negative action being taken on them. Restarting a thread when a moderator has closed the original topic is worth an immediate infraction. Reposting a post when a moderator has deleted it is worth an immediate infraction.

    4 Avatars and Signatures

    The moderators are free to decide if the size and content of an avatar or a signature disturbs the clarity and usability of the forum or offends the forum rules. The staff reserves the right to remove avatars and signatures that do not follow the rules, though they may also send a private message with a request to change it immediately. In cases where the rules are flagrantly broken, the staff reserves the right to issue an immediate ban on the member and deletion of the violating material.

    Each member is allowed to have one (1) linked signature image. This signature image may be no larger than 500x120 pixels in size (500 length, and 120 height). If a member chooses to have a signature image, they may have a maximum of 2 additional lines of text in their signature.

    Signature images found to be too large, distracting, or inappropriate may be removed without notice. Members with signature images and/or avatars found to contain inappropriate material (bad language, extreme violence, etc.) will be banned. Members with signature images and/or avatars found to contain pornographic images may be permanently banned.

    Please note that videos or any other non-static multimedia content is expressly forbidden in forum signatures.

    5 Language

    5.1 Official Language

    All members of the www.travian.us forums are expected to be able to read and write in English. All posts must be written in English so that they may be understood by all forum members, including the forum staff, who are responsible for monitoring the content of the forum. The forum staff may edit or delete posts in other languages and warn or punish players who do not follow this rule.

    5.2 Inappropriate Language and Content

    Intentionally misspelling words to evade the language filter is not allowed. Users who attempt to do so will be treated as if the actual word had been used without the language filter. Words that are purposefully used in an inappropriate context are also punishable. Images containing graphic or disturbing content (to include non-pornographic but still questionable content) are not permitted.

    Furthermore, please note that pornography of any kind constitutes a permanent ban from these boards. Whether it is linked to in an external link, uploaded to the forum itself, made an avatar, hosted by another site etc. is completely irrelevant.

    6 Use of the reputation system

    The reputation system is to be used fairly and honestly. Purposely boosting or dropping someone's reputation significantly is against the rules. This includes organizing such actions by multiple people, either to raise one's own reputation or to lower someone else's out of spite, anger, as an act of revenge, etc. Posts asking for reputation points are also not allowed and are subject to deletion. Warnings, bans and loss of reputation may be issued to users who do not heed a moderator's requests to cease posting for rep points. Furthermore, reputation comments that do not follow the rules regarding Etiquette may be punished.

    6.1 Reputation Penalties

    The forum staff always have and will reserve the right to issue a loss of reputation to members that consistently refuse to follow particular rules. This will generally be used only in extreme circumstances, however, members that purposefully abuse the reputation system or are chronically banned run the risk of having reputation partially or completely removed, or even set into negative reputation.


    7 Instigating Violations

    You are not permitted to instigate others to breach these rules. Any such attempt will be regarded as a breach of the same magnitude and will be punished as such. These rules are here to be respected and followed by all.

    8 Ban Discussion

    Members are strictly forbidden from public discussion, complaints, or comments regarding bans either from the game or the forum. Furthermore, because discussion of cheating is closely related to discussion of bans and accusing other players of cheating violates forum etiquette (2.2), any accusations, discussion, collaboration, and so on regarding rule violations will be deleted and the person posting it is subject to severe penalty. The forum staff also reserves the right to punish members that publicly complain about the moderators or in-game staff, especially when they have not consulted a higher authority. It is not possible for the community to arbitrate bans or disagreements with staff; this is only possible for the staff in question and/or the administrators. Therefore, discussion of this type will be deleted and the member will be penalized.

    8.1 Appeals

    Members that disagree with a ban or moderator actions are free to appeal to the moderator in question; you can do this by sending a message to a moderator of the section where the issue occurred. If no resolution occurs after a sincere attempt to resolve it with the moderator, then the Forum Admin (currently FA Slippery) may be contacted. If there is still no resolution then the .US Community Manager (currently CM Minke) may be notified.

    The following rule has been updated. We are lifting all restrictions on WW battle reports. All other battle reports must still be completely anonymous.
